Threat and Release
13Now as they observed the 5confidence of 6Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrainedmen, they were amazed, and 7began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.

And seeing the man who had been healedstanding with them, they hadnothing to say in reply.

But when they had ordered them to leave the 8Council, they began to confer with oneanother,

saying, "9What shall we do with thesemen? For the fact that a 10noteworthymiracle has takenplacethrough them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot*deny it.

"But so that it will not spreadanyfurther*among the people, let us warn them to speaknolonger to anyman11in thisname."

And when they had summoned them, they 12commanded them not to speakorteach at all in the name of Jesus.

But 13Peter and Johnanswered and said to them, "14Whether it is right in the sight of God to giveheed to you ratherthan to God, you be the judge;

for 15we cannot*stopspeaking about what we have seen and heard."

When they had threatened them further, they let them go (findingnobasis on which to punish them) 16on account of the people, because they were all17glorifyingGod for what had happened;
