13Now as they observed the 1confidence of 2Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrainedmen, they were amazed, and 3began to recognize them aas having been with Jesus.
And seeing the man who had been healedstanding with them, they hadnothing to say in reply.
But when they had ordered them to leave the b4Council, they began to confer with oneanother,
16saying, "5What shall we do with thesemen? For the fact that a 6noteworthycmiracle has takenplacethrough them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannotdeny it.
"But so that it will not spreadanyfurtheramong the people, let us warn them to speaknolonger to anyman7in thisname."
And when they had summoned them, they 8commanded them not to speakorteach at alldin the name of Jesus.
But 9Peter and Johnanswered and said to them, "10Whether it is right in the sight of God to giveheed to you ratherthan to God, you be the judge;
for 11we cannotstopspeaking about what we have seen and heard."
When they had threatened them further, they let them go (findingnobasis on which to punish them) 12on account of the people, because they were all13glorifyingGod for what had happened;
for the man was more than fortyyears old on whomthisemiracle of healing had been performed.
When they had been released, they went to their own companions and reportedall that the chiefpriests and the elders had said to them.
