saying, "1What shall we do with thesemen? For the fact that a 2noteworthymiracle has takenplacethrough them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot*deny it.

"But so that it will not spreadanyfurther*among the people, let us warn them to speaknolonger to anyman3in thisname."

And when they had summoned them, they 4commanded them not to speakorteach at all in the name of Jesus.

But 5Peter and Johnanswered and said to them, "6Whether it is right in the sight of God to giveheed to you ratherthan to God, you be the judge;

for 7we cannot*stopspeaking about what we have seen and heard."

When they had threatened them further, they let them go (findingnobasis on which to punish them) 8on account of the people, because they were all9glorifyingGod for what had happened;

for the man was more than fortyyears old on whomthismiracle of healing had been performed.

When they had been released, they went to their own companions and reportedall that the chiefpriests and the elders had said to them.

And when they heard this, they lifted their voices to God with oneaccord and said, "O Lord, it is You who 10MADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM

who 11by the HolySpirit, through the mouth of our fatherDavid Your servant, said, '12WHY* DID THE GENTILESRAGE, AND THE PEOPLESDEVISEFUTILETHINGS?

'13THE KINGS OF THE EARTHTOOK THEIR STAND, AND THE RULERS WERE GATHEREDTOGETHER**AGAINST THE LORD AND AGAINST HIS 14CHRIST.'
