Isaiah 27:4-13

4 "I have no wrath. Should someone give Me 1briars and thorns in battle, Then I would step on them, 2I would burn them completely.
5 "Or let him 3rely on My protection, Let him make peace with Me, Let him 4make peace with Me."
6 In the days to come Jacob 5will take root, Israel will 6blossom and sprout, And they will fill the whole world with 7fruit.
7 Like the striking of Him who has struck them, has 8He struck them? Or like the slaughter of His slain, have they been slain?
8 You contended with them by banishing them, by 9driving them away. With His fierce wind He has expelled them on the day of the 10east wind.
9 Therefore through this Jacob's iniquity will be 11forgiven; And this will be the full price of the 12pardoning of his sin: When he makes all the 13altar stones like pulverized chalk stones; When Asherim and incense altars will not stand.
10 For the fortified city is 14isolated, A homestead forlorn and forsaken like the desert; 15There the calf will graze, And there it will lie down and feed on its branches.
11 When its 16limbs are dry, they are broken off; Women come and make a fire with them, For they are not a people of 17discernment, Therefore * 18their Maker 19will not have compassion on them. And their Creator will not be gracious to them.
12 In that day the LORD 20will start His threshing from the flowing stream of the 21Euphrates to the brook of Egypt, and you will be 22gathered up one by one, O sons of Israel.
13 It will come about also in that day that a great 23trumpet will be blown, and those who were perishing in the land of 24Assyria and who were scattered in the land of Egypt will come and 25worship the LORD in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

Isaiah 27:4-13 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO ISAIAH 27

This chapter refers to the same times as the two foregoing ones Isa 25:1-26:21; and is a continuation of the same song, or rather a new one on the same occasion; it is prophetical of the last times, and of what shall be done in them, as the destruction of the antichristian powers, and Satan at the head of them, Isa 27:1 the happy state of the church, and its fruitfulness under the care and protection of the Lord, and his affection for it, Isa 27:2-4 its peace, prosperity, and flourishing condition, Isa 27:5,6 the nature, use, and end of all its afflictions and chastisements, Isa 27:7-9 the ruin and destruction of the city of Rome, and its inhabitants, and of its whole jurisdiction, Isa 27:10,11 a great gathering and conversion of the Lord's people, both Jews and Gentiles, by the ministry of the Gospel, Isa 27:12,13.
