"I 1declared the formerthingslongago And they wentforth from My mouth, and I proclaimed them. 2Suddenly I acted, and they 3came to pass.
4"Because I know that you are a4obstinate, And your 5neck is an ironsinew And your 6foreheadbronze,
Therefore I declared them to you longago, Beforebthey tookplace I proclaimed them to you, So that you would not say, 'My 7idol has done them, And my gravenimage and my moltenimage have commanded them.'
"You have heard; look at all this. And you, will you not declare it? I proclaim to you 8newthings from thistime, Even hiddenthings which you have not known.
"They are creatednow and not longago; And beforetoday you have not heard them, So that you will not say, 'Behold, I knew them.'
"You have not 9heard, you have not known. Even from longago your ear has not been open, Because I knew that you would dealverytreacherously; And you have been called a c10rebel from dbirth.
"11For the sake of My name I 12delay My wrath, And for My praise I restrain it for you, In order not to cut you off.
10"Behold, I have refined you, but 13not as silver; I have tested you in the 14furnace of affliction.
"15For My own sake, for My own sake, I will act; For how can My name be profaned? And My 16glory I will not give to another.
12"Listen to Me, O Jacob, even Israelewhom I called; 17I am He, 18I am the first, I am also the last.
13"Surely My hand19founded the earth, And My righthandspread out the heavens; When I 20call to them, they standtogether.
