James 4:7-17 (New American Standard)

View In My Bible
7 1Submit therefore to God. 2Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 3Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. 4Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and 5purify your hearts, you 6double-minded. 9 7Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 8Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. 11 9Do not speak against one another, 10brethren. He who speaks against a brother or 11judges his brother, speaks against 12the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not 13a doer of the law but a judge of it. 12 There is only one 14Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is 15able to save and to destroy; but 16who are you who judge your neighbor? 13 17Come now, you who say, "18Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit." 14 aYet you do not know bwhat your life will be like tomorrow. 19You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. 15 cInstead, you ought to say, "20If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that." 16 But as it is, you boast in your darrogance; 21all such boasting is evil. 17 Therefore, 22to one who knows the eright thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.
