Jeremiah 30:2-12

2 "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, '1Write all the words which I have spoken to you in a book.
3 'For behold, 2days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will 3restore the fortunes of My people 4Israel and Judah.' The LORD says, 'I will also 5bring them back to the land that I gave to their forefathers and they shall possess it.' "
4 Now these are the words which the LORD spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah:
5 "For thus says the LORD, 'I have heard a sound of 6terror, Of dread, and there is no peace.
6 'Ask now, and see If a male can give birth. Why do I see every man With his hands on his loins, 7as a woman in childbirth? And why have all faces turned pale?
7 'Alas! for that 8day is great, There is 9none like it; And it is the time of Jacob's 10distress, But he will be 11saved from it.
8 'It shall come about on that day,' declares the LORD of hosts, 'that I will 12break his yoke from off their neck and will tear off their 13bonds; and strangers will no longer 14make them their slaves.
9 'But they shall serve the LORD their God and 15David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
10 '16Fear not, O Jacob My servant,' declares the LORD, 'And do not be dismayed, O Israel; For behold, I will save you 17from afar And your offspring from the land of their captivity. And Jacob will return and will be 18quiet and at ease, And 19no one will make him afraid.
11 'For 20I am with you,' declares the LORD, 'to save you; For I will 21destroy * completely all the nations where * I have scattered you, Only I will 22not destroy * you completely. But I will 23chasten you justly And will by no means leave you unpunished.'
12 "For thus says the LORD, 'Your wound is incurable And your 24injury is serious.

Jeremiah 30:2-12 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO JEREMIAH 30

This chapter contains a prophecy of the call and conversion of the Jews in the latter day; which being a matter of moment and importance, and that it might continue, and be read hereafter, it is ordered to be written in a book, Jer 30:1,2; the thing itself is expressed by a return from captivity to their own land, Jer 30:3; but previous to this there would be most dreadful times, as never were the like, Jer 30:4-7; yet there would be a deliverance from them, and from the yoke of the oppressor; when the Jews should serve the Lord God, and the true Messiah, Jer 30:8,9; of which deliverance and salvation they are assured in the strongest terms, though all other nations should be made an end of, among whom they were, Jer 30:10,11; and though their ease might seem to be desperate, Jer 30:12-17; nevertheless they should be brought into a very comfortable and happy estate; their city rebuilt; their offspring increased; and religious worship established; and, above all, the Messiah should be made known to them as their King and Priest, and they appear to be the Lord's covenant people, Jer 30:18-22; and the chapter is concluded with threatening utter destruction to the wicked, Jer 30:23,24.
