16"After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, then I 1prayed to the LORD, saying,
'2AhLordaGOD ! Behold, You have 3made the heavens and the earth by Your greatpower and by Your outstretchedarm ! 4Nothing is toodifficult for You,
who 5showslovingkindness to thousands, but 6repays the iniquity of fathers into the bosom of their childrenafter them, O 7great and 8mightyGod. The 9LORD of hosts is His name ;
1910great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose11eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, 12giving to everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds ;
20who has 13setsigns and wonders in the land of Egypt, and even to thisday both in Israel and among mankind ; and You have 14made a name for Yourself, as at thisday.
'You 15brought Your peopleIsrael out of the land of Egypt with signs and with wonders, and with a stronghand and with an outstretchedarm and with greatterror ;
and gave them thisland, which You 16swore to their forefathers to give them, a landflowing with milk and honey.
'They 17came in and tookpossession of it, but they 18did not obey Your voice or 19walk in Your law ; they have donenothing of all that You commanded them to do ; therefore You have made 20allthiscalamitycome upon them.
24'Behold, the 21siegeramps have reached the city to take it; and the city is 22given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fightagainst it, because of the 23sword, the famine and the pestilence ; and what You have spoken has 24come to pass ; and behold, You see it.
'You have said to me, O LordbGOD, "Buy for yourself the field with money and call in witnesses "-although the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.' "
Then the word of the LORDcame to Jeremiah, saying,
27"Behold, I am the LORD, the 25God of allflesh ; is anything26toodifficult for Me?"
28Thereforethussays the LORD, "Behold, I am about to 27givethiscity into the hand of the Chaldeans and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzarking of Babylon, and he will take it.
"The Chaldeans who are fightingagainstthiscity will enter and 28setthiscity on fire and burn it, with the 29houseswhere people have offeredincense to Baal on their roofs and poured out drinkofferings to othergods to provoke Me to anger.
30"Indeed the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have been doingonly30evil in My sight from their youth ; for the sons of Israel have been only31provoking Me to anger by the work of their hands," declares the LORD.
31"Indeedthiscity has been to Me a 32provocation of My anger and My wrath from the day that they built it, even to thisday, so that it should be 33removed from before My face,
32because of all the evil of the sons of Israel and the sons of Judahwhich they have done to provoke Me to anger -they, their 34kings, their leaders, their priests, their prophets, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
"They have turned their back to Me and not their face ; though I taught them, c35teachingagain and again, they would not listendand receiveinstruction.
"But they 36put their detestablethings in the housewhich is called by My name, to defile it.
"They built the 37highplaces of Baal that are in the valley of Ben-hinnom to cause their sons and their daughters to passthrough the fire to 38Molech, which I had not commanded them nor had it eentered My mind that they should dothisabomination, to cause Judah to sin.
36"Nowthereforethussays the LORDGod of Israelconcerningthiscity of which you say, 'It is 39given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, by famine and by pestilence.'
37"Behold, I will 40gather them out of all the lands to which I have driven them in My anger, in My wrath and in greatindignation ; and I will bring them back to thisplace and 41make them dwell in safety.
"They shall be 42My people, and I will be their God ;
and I will 43give them oneheart and oneway, that they may fear Me always , for their own 44good and for the good of their childrenafter them.
"I will make an 45everlastingcovenant with them that I will 46not turnaway from them, to do them good ; and I will 47put the fear of Me in their hearts so that they will not turnaway from Me.
"I will 48rejoiceover them to do them good and will ffaithfully49plant them in thisland with 50all My heart and with all My soul.
"For thussays the LORD, '51Just as I broughtallthisgreatdisaster on thispeople, so I am going to 52bring on them all the good that I am promising them.
'53Fields will be bought in thisland of which you say, "54It is a desolation, withoutman or beast ; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans."
'Men will buyfields for money, g55sign and sealdeeds, and call in witnesses in the 56land of Benjamin, in the environs of Jerusalem, in the cities of Judah, in the cities of the hillcountry, in the cities of the lowland and in the cities of the hNegev ; for I will 57restore their ifortunes,' declares the LORD."
