6"If I speak, 1my pain is not lessened, And if I holdback, what has left me?
"But now He has 2exhausted me; You have laid3wasteall my company.
"You have shriveled me up, 4It has become a witness; And my 5leannessrises up against me, It testifies to my face.
"His anger has 6torn me and ahunted me down, He has 7gnashed at me with His teeth; My 8adversarybglares at me.
"They have 9gaped at me with their mouth, They have c10slapped me on the cheek with contempt; They have 11massed themselves against me.
11"Godhands me over to ruffians And tosses me into the hands of the wicked.
"I was at ease, but 12He shattered me, And He has grasped me by the neck and shaken me to pieces; He has also set me up as His 13target.
"His 14arrowssurround me. Withoutmercy He splits my kidneysopen; He pours out 15my gall on the ground.
"He 16breaksthrough me with breachafterbreach; He 17runs at me like a warrior.
"I have sewed18sackclothover my skin And 19thrust my horn in the dust.
"My face is flushed from 20weeping, 21And deepdarkness is on my eyelids,
17Although there is no22violence in my hands, And 23my prayer is pure.
"O earth, do not cover my blood, And let there be no resting place for my cry.
19"Evennow, behold, 24my witness is in heaven, And my dadvocate is 25on high.
"My friends are my scoffers; 26My eyeeweeps to God.
"O that a man might plead with God As a man with his neighbor!
"For when a fewyears are past, I shall go the way27of noreturn.
