The LORDsaid to Satan, "From where do you come?" Then Satananswered the LORD and said, "3From roamingabout on the earth and walkingaround on it."
The LORDsaid to Satan, "Have you bconsidered4My servantJob? For there is noonelike him on the earth, 5a blameless and uprightman, cfearingGod and turningaway from evil."
Then 6Satananswered the dLORD, "Does JobfearGod for nothing?
"7Have You not made a hedgeabout him and his house and all that he has, on everyside? 8You have blessed the work of his hands, and his 9possessions have increased in the land.
"10But putforth Your handnow and 11touchall that he has; he will surelycurse You to Your face."
Then the LORDsaid to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your epower, only do not putforth your hand on him." So Satandeparted from the presence of the LORD.
Now on the day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinkingwine in their oldestbrother'shouse,

and gthe 12Sabeanshattacked and took them. They also islew the servants with the edge of the sword, and jI alone have escaped to tell you."
While he was stillspeaking, another also came and said, "13The fire of Godfell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you."
While he was stillspeaking, another also came and said, "The 14Chaldeansformedthreebands and made a raid on the camels and took them and kslew the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you."

and behold, a greatwindcame from across the wilderness and struck the fourcorners of the house, and it fell on the youngpeople and they died, and I alone have escaped to tell you."
Then Jobarose and 15tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped.
He said, "16Naked I came from my mother'swomb, And naked I shall returnthere. The 17LORDgave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD."
