But He was sayingthis1to indicate the kind of death by which He was to die.

The crowdthenanswered Him, "We have heard out of 2the Law that 3the Christ is to remainforever; and how can You say, 'The 4Son of Manmust be 5lifted up'? Who is this6Son of Man?"

SoJesussaid to them, "7For a littlewhilelonger8the Light is among you. 9Walkwhile you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who 10walks in the darkness does not knowwhere he goes.

"While you have the Light, 11believe in the Light, so that you may become12sons of Light."ThesethingsJesusspoke, and He wentaway and 13hid Himself from them.

But though He had performedsomanysignsbefore them, yet they were not believing in Him.

This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophetwhich he spoke: "14LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT? AND TO WHOM HAS THE ARM OF THE LORD BEEN REVEALED?"

For thisreason they could not believe, for Isaiahsaidagain,

"15HE HAS BLINDED THEIR EYES AND HE 16HARDENED THEIR HEART, SO* THAT THEY WOULD NOT SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND PERCEIVE WITH THEIR HEART, AND BE CONVERTED AND I HEAL THEM"

ThesethingsIsaiahsaidbecause17he saw His glory, and 18he spoke of Him.

Nevertheless*19manyeven of 20the rulersbelieved in Him, but 21because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, for fear* that they would be 22put out of the synagogue;

23for they loved the approval of menratherthan the approval of God.
