2
2And the soldierstwisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and put a purplerobe on Him;
3
and they began to come up to Him and say, "3Hail, King of the Jews!" and to 4give Him slaps in the face.
4
Pilate5came out again and said to them, "Behold, I am bringing Him out to you so that you may know that 6I findnoguilt in Him."
5
Jesusthencame out, 7wearing the crown of thorns and the purplerobe. Pilate said to them, "Behold, the Man!"
6
Sowhen the chiefpriests and the 8officerssaw Him, they cried out saying, "Crucify, crucify!" Pilatesaid to them, "Take Him yourselves and crucify Him, for 9I findnoguilt in Him."
7
The Jewsanswered him, "10We have a law, and by that law He ought to diebecause He 11madeHimself out to be the Son of God."
8
ThereforewhenPilateheardthisstatement, he was even moreafraid;
9
and he 12entered into the Praetoriumagain and said to Jesus, "Where are You from?" But 13Jesusgave him noanswer.
10
SoPilatesaid to Him, "You do not speak to me? Do You not know that I haveauthority to release You, and I haveauthority to crucify You?"
11
Jesusanswered, "14You would haveno*authorityover Me, unless* it had beengiven you from above; for thisreason15he who delivered Me to you has the greatersin."
12
As a result of thisPilatemadeefforts to release Him, but the Jewscried out saying, "16If you releasethisMan, you are nofriend of Caesar; everyone who makeshimself out to be a kingopposesCaesar."
13
Therefore when Pilateheardthesewords, he broughtJesus out, and 17satdown on the judgmentseat at a placecalled The Pavement, but 18in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
14
Now it was 19the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the 20sixthhour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold, 21your King!"
15
So they cried out, "22Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!" Pilatesaid to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chiefpriestsanswered, "We havenoking but Caesar."
