As a result of thisPilatemadeefforts to release Him, but the Jewscried out saying, "1If you releasethisMan, you are nofriend of Caesar; everyone who makeshimself out to be a kingopposesCaesar."

Therefore when Pilateheardthesewords, he broughtJesus out, and 2satdown on the judgmentseat at a placecalled The Pavement, but 3in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

Now it was 4the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the 5sixthhour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold, 6your King!"

So they cried out, "7Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!" Pilatesaid to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chiefpriestsanswered, "We havenoking but Caesar."
The Crucifixion
16So he then8handed Him over to them to be crucified.

9They tookJesus, therefore, and He went out, 10bearing His owncross, to the place called11the Place of a Skull, which is called12in Hebrew, Golgotha.

There they crucified Him, and with Him 13twoothermen, one on eitherside, and Jesus in between.

Pilatealsowrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, "14JESUS THE NAZARENE, 15THE KING OF THE JEWS."

Thereforemany of the Jewsreadthisinscription, for the placewhereJesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written16in Hebrew, Latin and in Greek.

So the chiefpriests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, "Do not write, '17The King of the Jews '; but that He said, 'I am18King of the Jews.' "

Pilateanswered, "19What I have written I have written."
