And He had to passthrough1Samaria.
5So He came to a city of 2SamariacalledSychar, near3the parcel of ground that 4Jacobgave to his sonJoseph ;
and Jacob'swell was there. SoJesus, being wearied from His journey, was sittingthus by the well. It was aboutathe sixthhour.
There came a woman of Samaria to drawwater. Jesussaid to her, "Give Me a drink."8
For His 5disciples had goneaway into 6the city to buyfood.
9Therefore the 7Samaritanwomansaid to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritanwoman ?" (For 8Jewshavenodealings with Samaritans.)
10Jesusanswered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you 9livingwater."11
She said to Him, "bSir, You havenothing to draw with and the well is deep ; wherethen do You get that 10living water?
"You are not greater than our fatherJacob, are You, who11gave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle ?"
13Jesusanswered and said to her, "Everyone who drinks of thiswater will thirstagain ;14but whoeverdrinks of the water that I will give him 12shall neverthirst ; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of waterspringing up to 13eternallife."
