Therefore the soldiersdidthesethings. 1But standing by the cross of Jesus were 2His mother, and His mother'ssister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and 3MaryMagdalene.

When Jesusthensaw His mother, and 4the disciplewhom He lovedstandingnearby, He said to His mother, "5Woman, behold, your son!"

Then He said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" From that hour the discipletook her into 6his own household.

Afterthis, Jesus, 7knowing that allthings had already been accomplished, 8to fulfill the Scripture, said, "9I amthirsty."

A jarfull of sourwine was standing there; so10they put a spongefull of the sourwine upon a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth.

ThereforewhenJesus had received the sourwine, He said, "11It is finished!" And He bowed His head and 12gave up His spirit.
Care of the Body of Jesus
31Then the Jews, because it was 13the day of preparation, so that 14the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a 15highday ), askedPilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be takenaway.

So the soldierscame, and broke the legs of the firstman and of the other who was 16crucified with Him;

but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was alreadydead, they did not break His legs.

But one of the soldierspierced His side with a spear, and immediately17blood and watercame out.

And he who has seen has 18testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe.
