Then it came about, when Jabinking of 1Hazorheard of it, that he sent to Jobabking of Madon and to the king of Shimron and to the king of Achshaph,
and to the kingswho were of the north in the hillcountry, and in the 2Arabah-south of aChinneroth and in the lowland and on the bheights of Dor on the west -
to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Jebusite in the hillcountry, and 3the Hivitecat the foot of 4Hermon in the land of 5Mizpeh.
They came out, they and all their armies with them, 6as manypeople as the sand that is on the seashore , with verymanyhorses and chariots.
So all of thesekings having agreed to meet, came and encampedtogether at the waters of Merom, to fightagainstIsrael.
Then the LORDsaid to Joshua, "7Do not be afraidbecause of them, for tomorrow at thistime I will deliverall of them slainbeforeIsrael ; you shall 8hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire."
So Joshua and all the people of war with him came upon them suddenly by the waters of Merom, and attacked them.
The LORDdelivered them into the hand of Israel, so that they ddefeated them, and pursued them as far as GreatSidon and 9Misrephoth-maim and the valley of 10Mizpeh to the east ; and they struck them untilnosurvivor was left to them.
9Joshuadid to them as the LORD had told him; he 11hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire.
Then Joshuaturnedback at that time, and captured12Hazor and struck its king with the sword ; for Hazorformerly was the head of allthesekingdoms.
1113They struckeverypersonwho was in it with the edge of the sword, eutterlydestroying them; there was no one leftwhobreathed. And he burnedHazor with fire.
12Joshuacapturedall the cities of thesekings, and all their kings, and he struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterlydestroyed them; just14as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded.
13However, Israel did not burnanycities that stood on their mounds, exceptHazoralone, which Joshuaburned.
1415All the spoil of thesecities and the cattle, the sons of Israeltook as their plunder ; but they struckeveryman with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them. They leftnoonewhobreathed.
15Just as the LORD had commandedMoses his servant, soMosescommandedJoshua, and soJoshuadid ; he leftnothingundone of all that the LORD had commandedMoses.
Thus Joshuatookall that land : 16the hillcountry and all the fNegev, all that land of Goshen, the lowland, 17the Arabah, the hillcountry of Israel and its lowland17
from 18MountHalak, that rises toward Seir, even as far as Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanongat the foot of MountHermon. And he captured19all their kings and struck them down and put them to death.
18Joshuawagedwar a longtime with allthesekings.
There was not a citywhichmadepeace with the sons of Israelexcept20the Hivitesliving in Gibeon ; they took them all in battle.
2021For it was of the LORD to hharden their hearts, to meetIsrael in battle in order that he might 22utterlydestroy them, that they might ireceivenomercy, but that he might destroy them, just as the LORD had commandedMoses.
Then Joshuacame at that time and cutoff23the Anakim from the hillcountry, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab and from all the hillcountry of Judah and from all the hillcountry of Israel. Joshuautterlydestroyed them with their cities.
There were noAnakimleft in the land of the sons of Israel ; only in Gaza, in 24Gath, and in 25Ashdod some remained.
So Joshuatook the wholeland, according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses, and 26Joshuagave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. 27Thus the landhadrest from war.
