Then Joshuaroseearly in the morning ; and he and all the sons of Israelset out from 1Shittim and came to the Jordan, and they lodgedtherebefore they crossed.
22At the end of threedays the officerswentthrough the midst of the camp ;
and they commanded the people, saying, "When you see the 3ark of the covenant of the LORD your God with the Leviticalpriestscarrying it, then you shall set out from your place and goafter it.
4"However, there shall be between you and it a distance of about 2,000acubits by measure. Do not comenear it, that you may know the way by which you shall go, for you have not passed this waybefore ."
Then Joshuasaid to the people, "4Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will dowondersamong you."
And Joshuaspoke to the priests, saying, "Take up the ark of the covenant and crossoverahead of the people." So they took up the ark of the covenant and wentahead of the people.
Now the LORDsaid to Joshua, "Thisday I will begin to 5exalt you in the sight of allIsrael, that they may know that just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you.
"You shall, moreover, command the priests who are carrying the ark of the covenant, saying, 'When you come to the edge of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.' "
Then Joshuasaid to the sons of Israel, "Comehere, and hear the words of the LORD your God."
10Joshuasaid, "By this you shall know that 6the livingGod is among you, and that He will assuredly7dispossess from before you the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, and the Jebusite.
11"Behold, the ark of the covenant of 8the Lord of all the earth is crossingoverahead of you into the Jordan.
12"Now then, 9take for yourselves twelvemen from the tribes of Israel, oneman for eachtribe.
"It shall come about when the soles of the feet of the priests who carry the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan will be cutoff, and the waters which are bflowingdown from abovecwill 10stand in oneheap."
So when the peopleset out from their tents to cross the Jordan with the priestscarrying11the ark of the covenantbefore the people,
and when those who carried the arkcame into the Jordan, and the feet of the priestscarrying the ark were dipped in the edge of the water (for the 12Jordanoverflowsall its banksall the days of harvest ),
1613the waters which were dflowingdown from abovestood and rose up in 14oneheap, a greatdistance away at Adam, the city that is besideZarethan ; and those which were eflowingdowntoward the sea of the 15Arabah, the SaltSea, were completelycutoff. So the peoplecrossedoppositeJericho.
And the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORDstoodfirm16on dryground in the middle of the Jordan while allIsraelcrossed on dryground, untilall the nation had finishedcrossing the Jordan.
