Calling them to Himself, Jesussaid to them, "You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentileslord it over them; and their greatmenexerciseauthorityover them.

"But it is not thiswayamong you, 3but whoever*wishes to becomegreatamong you shall be your servant;

and whoever*wishes to be firstamong you shall be slave of all.

"For even the Son of Man4did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
Bartimaeus Receives His Sight
465Then they came to Jericho. And 6as He was leavingJericho with His disciples and a largecrowd, a blindbeggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road.

When he heard that it was Jesus the 7Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, 8Son of David, havemercy on me!"

Many were sternlytelling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, "9Son of David, havemercy on me!"

And Jesusstopped and said, "Call him here."So they called the blindman, saying to him, "10Takecourage, stand up! He is calling for you."

Throwingaside his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus.
