At the 1ninthhourJesuscried out with a loudvoice, "2ELOI, ELOI, LAMASABACHTHANI?"which is translated, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY* HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"

When some of the bystandersheard it, they began saying, "Behold, He is calling for Elijah."

Someoneran and filled a sponge with sourwine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, "Let us seewhetherElijah will come to take Him down."

3And Jesusuttered a loudcry, and breathed His last.

4And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

5When the centurion, who was standingright in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, "Trulythisman was the Son of God!"

6There were also some womenlooking on from a distance, amongwhom were MaryMagdalene, and Mary the mother of James7the Less and Joses, and 8Salome.

When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and 9minister to Him; and there were manyotherwomen who came up with Him to Jerusalem.

Pilatewonderedif He was dead by thistime, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He was alreadydead.
