42"Therefore3be on the alert, for you do not knowwhichday your Lord is coming.

"But be sure of this, that 4if the head of the house had known5at whattime of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.

"For thisreason6you also must be ready; for 7the Son of Man is coming at an hourwhen you do not think He will.

"8Whothen is the 9faithful and 10sensibleslavewhom his master11put in charge of his household to give them their food at the propertime?

"Blessed is that slavewhom his masterfindssodoing when he comes.

"Truly I say to you that 12he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

"But if that evilslavesays in his heart, 'My master is not coming for a longtime,'

and begins to beat his fellowslaves and eat and drink with drunkards;
50
the master of that slave will come on a daywhen he does not expect him and at an hourwhich he does not know,
51
and will cut him in pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that placethere will be 13weeping and gnashing of teeth.
