At that timeJesussaid to the crowds, "Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would against a robber? 2Everyday I used to sit in the templeteaching and you did not seize Me.

574Those who had seizedJesusled Him away to 5Caiaphas, the highpriest, where the scribes and the elders were gatheredtogether.

But 6Peter was following Him at a distance as far as the 7courtyard of the highpriest, and entered in, and satdown with the 8officers to see the outcome.

Now the chiefpriests and the whole9Council kept trying to obtainfalsetestimonyagainstJesus, so that they might put Him to death.

They did not find any, even though manyfalsewitnessescameforward. But later on 10twocameforward,

and said, "Thismanstated, '11I amable to destroy the temple of God and to rebuild it in threedays.' "

The highprieststood up and said to Him, "Do You not answer? What is it that thesemen are testifyingagainst You?"

But 12Jesuskeptsilent. 13And the highpriestsaid to Him, "I 14adjure You by 15the livingGod, that You tell us whether You are the Christ, 16the Son of God."

Jesussaid to him, "17You have said it yourself; nevertheless I tell you, hereafter* you will see18THE SON OF MANSITTING AT THE RIGHTHAND OF POWER, and 19COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN."
