The highprieststood up and said to Him, "Do You not answer? What is it that thesemen are testifyingagainst You?"

But 1Jesuskeptsilent. 2And the highpriestsaid to Him, "I 3adjure You by 4the livingGod, that You tell us whether You are the Christ, 5the Son of God."

Jesussaid to him, "6You have said it yourself; nevertheless I tell you, hereafter* you will see7THE SON OF MANSITTING AT THE RIGHTHAND OF POWER, and 8COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN."

Then the highpriest9tore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! Whatfurtherneed do we have of witnesses? Behold, you have nowheard the blasphemy;

what do you think?" They answered, "10He deservesdeath!"

11Then they 12spat in His face and beat Him with their fists; and othersslapped Him,

and said, "13Prophesy to us, You Christ; who is the one who hit You?"

When he had gone out to the gateway, another servant-girl saw him and said to thosewho were there, "Thisman was with Jesus of Nazareth."

And again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man."
