saying, "I have sinned by betrayinginnocentblood." But they said, "What is that to us? 1See to that yourself!"

And he threw the pieces of silver into 2the templesanctuary and departed; and 3he wentaway and hanged himself.

The chiefprieststook the pieces of silver and said, "It is not lawful to put them into the templetreasury, since it is the price of blood."

And they conferred*together and with the moneybought the Potter'sField as a burialplace for strangers.

4For thisreason that field has been called the Field of Blood to thisday.

Then that which was spokenthroughJeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: "5AND THEY TOOK THE THIRTYPIECES OF SILVER, THE PRICE OF THE ONE WHOSEPRICE HAD BEEN SET by the sons of Israel;

ThenPilatesaid to Him, "Do You not hearhowmanythings they testifyagainst You?"

And 11He did not answer him with regard to even a single charge, so the governor was quiteamazed.
