14 But Peter, taking his stand with 1the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: "Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and giveheed to my words.
15
"For thesemen are not drunk, as you suppose, 2for it is only the thirdhour of the day;
16
but this is what was spoken of through the prophetJoel:
17
'3AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LASTDAYS,' Godsays, 'THAT I WILL POURFORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALLMANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNGMEN SHALL SEEVISIONS, AND YOUR OLDMEN SHALL DREAMDREAMS;
18
EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSEDAYSPOURFORTH OF MY SPIRIT And they shall prophesy.
19
'AND I WILL GRANTWONDERS IN THE SKYABOVE AND SIGNS ON THE EARTHBELOW, BLOOD, AND FIRE, AND VAPOR OF SMOKE.
20
'THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD, BEFORE THE GREAT AND GLORIOUSDAY OF THE LORD SHALL COME.
21
'AND IT SHALL BE THAT 4EVERYONEWHOCALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.'
22
"Men of Israel, listen to thesewords: 5Jesus the Nazarene, 6a manattested to you by God with miracles and 7wonders and signswhichGodperformedthrough Him in your midst, just as you yourselvesknow -
23
this Man, delivered over by the 8predeterminedplan and foreknowledge of God, 9you nailed to a cross by the hands of godlessmen and put Him to death.
24
"But 10Godraised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it 11was impossible* for Him to be held in its power.
25
"For Davidsays of Him, '12I SAW THE LORDALWAYS* IN MY PRESENCE; FOR HE IS AT MY RIGHTHAND, SO THAT I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN.
26
'THEREFORE* MY HEART WAS GLAD AND MY TONGUEEXULTED; MOREOVER* MY FLESHALSO WILL LIVE IN HOPE;
27
BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO 13HADES, 14NORALLOW YOUR HOLYONE TO UNDERGODECAY.
28
'YOU HAVE MADEKNOWN TO ME THE WAYS OF LIFE; YOU WILL MAKE ME FULL OF GLADNESS WITH YOUR PRESENCE.'
29
"Brethren*, I mayconfidentlysay to you regarding the 15patriarchDavid that he both16died and 17was buried, and 18his tomb is with us to thisday.
30
"And so, because he was 19a prophet and knew that 20GOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS* ON HIS THRONE,
31
he lookedahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that 21HE WAS NEITHERABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His fleshSUFFERDECAY.
32
"ThisJesus22Godraised up again, to which we are all23witnesses.
33
"Therefore having been exalted24to the righthand of God, and 25having received from the Father26the promise of the HolySpirit, He has 27pouredforththiswhich you bothsee and hear.
34
"For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himselfsays: '28THE LORDSAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHTHAND,
35
UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET."'
36
"Therefore let all the 29house of Israelknow for certain that God has made Him both30Lord and Christ-thisJesus31whom you crucified."
The Ingathering
37Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren*, 32what shall we do?"
38
Peter said to them, "33Repent, and each of you be 34baptized in the name of JesusChrist for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the HolySpirit.
39
"For 35the promise is for you and your children and for allwho are 36faroff, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself."
40
And with manyotherwords he solemnly37testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, "Be saved from this38perversegeneration!"
