Psalms 37:21-31

21 The wicked borrows and does not pay back, But the righteous 1is gracious and gives.
22 For 2those blessed by Him will 3inherit the land, But those 4cursed by Him will be cut off.
23 5The steps of a man are established by the LORD, And He 6delights in his way.
24 When 7he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because 8the LORD is the One who holds his hand.
25 I have been young and now I am old, Yet 9I have not seen the righteous forsaken Or 10his descendants begging bread.
26 All day long 11he is gracious and lends, And 12his descendants are a blessing.
27 13Depart from evil and do good, So you will abide 14forever.
28 For the LORD 15loves justice And 16does not forsake His godly ones; They are 17preserved forever, But the 18descendants of the wicked will be cut off.
29 The righteous will 19inherit the land And 20dwell in it forever.
30 The mouth of the righteous 21utters wisdom, And his tongue 22speaks justice.
31 The 23law of his God is in his heart; His 24steps do not slip.

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 37

\\<<[A Psalm] of David>>\\. This psalm, it is very probable, was written at the same time, and upon the same occasion, with the former; and describes the different states of good and bad men; and is full of exhortations, instructions, and advice to the people of God; intermixed with various encouraging promises. A late learned writer {h} thinks it was written for Mephibosheth's consolation under Ziba's calumny. {h} Delaney's Life of King David, vol. 2. p. 219.
