5 For this reason I left you in 20Crete, that you would set in order what remains and 21appoint 22elders in every city as I directed you, 6 namely, 23if any man is above reproach, the 24husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of 25dissipation or 26rebellion. 7 For the d27overseer must be above reproach as 28God's steward, not 29self-willed, not quick-tempered, not 30addicted to wine, not pugnacious, 31not fond of sordid gain, 8 but 32hospitable, 33loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled, 9 34holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in 35sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. 10 36For there are many 37rebellious men, 38empty talkers and deceivers, especially 39those of the circumcision,New American Standard Bible Copyright © 1960, 1962, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1995 by The Lockman Foundation, La Habra, California.
