1 Samuel 25:12 Meaning and Commentary

1 Samuel 25:12

So David's young men turned their way
Their backs on him, without making any reply; and though they did not return railing for railing, they treated him with silent contempt; and though they did not offer to do any injury to his person, nor to take anything away by force, yet they were determined to report this usage to David, who they doubted not would avenge the affront put on him and them:

and went again;
to the wilderness from whence they came:

and came and told him all these sayings;
rude and reproachful ones, just as they were delivered.

1 Samuel 25:12 In-Context

11 I have bread and water, and I have meat that I killed for my servants who cut the wool. But I won't give it to men I don't know."
12 David's men went back and told him all Nabal had said.
13 Then David said to them, "Put on your swords!" So they put on their swords, and David put on his also. About four hundred men went with David, but two hundred men stayed with the supplies.
14 One of Nabal's servants said to Abigail, Nabal's wife, "David sent messengers from the desert to greet our master, but Nabal insulted them.
