Jeremiah 37:4 Meaning and Commentary

Jeremiah 37:4

Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people
Was at full liberty, and could go out of the city, and come in, when he pleased; or go into any part of it, and converse with the people, and prophesy to them; which he could not do in the latter part of Jehoiakim's reign, who sent persons after him and Baruch to take them, and they were obliged to hide themselves, yea, the Lord hid them, ( Jeremiah 36:19 Jeremiah 36:26 ) ; but now he was under no restraint, as least as yet: for they had not put him into prison;
not yet; they afterwards did, ( Jeremiah 37:15 ) .

Jeremiah 37:4 In-Context

2 Zedekiah and his attendants didn't pay any attention to what the LORD had said through me. And the people of the land didn't pay any attention either.
3 But King Zedekiah sent Jehucal to me. He sent the priest Zephaniah along with him. Jehucal was the son of Shelemiah. Zephaniah was the son of Maaseiah. Jehucal and Zephaniah brought the king's message to me. It said, "Please pray to the LORD our God for us."
4 At that time I was free to come and go among the people. I had not yet been put in prison.
5 The armies of Babylonia were attacking Jerusalem. They received a report that Pharaoh's army had marched out of Egypt to help Zedekiah. So they pulled back from Jerusalem.
6 A message came to me from the Lord.
