Jeremiah 51:62

62 Then say, 'Lord, you have said you will destroy this place. You have said that no people or animals will live here. It will be empty forever.'

Jeremiah 51:62 Meaning and Commentary

Jeremiah 51:62

Then shall thou say, O Lord
Acknowledging this prophecy to be of God; believing the accomplishment of it; and praying over it, and for it, like a good man, as doubtless he was: thou hast spoken against this place;
the city of Babylon, where Seraiah is now supposed to be: to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but
that it shall be desolate for ever;
this is the substance of the whole prophecy, that the destruction of Babylon should be an utter and a perpetual one; and which is expressed in the same words that are here used, ( Jeremiah 50:3 Jeremiah 50:13 Jeremiah 50:26 Jeremiah 50:40 ) .

Jeremiah 51:62 In-Context

60 I had written about all of the trouble that would come on Babylon. I had written it down on a scroll. It included everything that had been recorded about Babylon.
61 I said to Seraiah, "When you get to Babylon, here's what I want you to do. Make sure that you read all of these words out loud.
62 Then say, 'Lord, you have said you will destroy this place. You have said that no people or animals will live here. It will be empty forever.'
63 "Finish reading the scroll. Tie a stone to it. Throw it into the Euphrates River.
64 Then say, 'In the same way, Babylon will sink down. It will never rise again. That is because I will bring such horrible trouble on it. And its people will fall along with it.' " The words of Jeremiah end here.
