Luke 9:58

58 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes. Birds of the air have nests. But the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

Luke 9:58 Meaning and Commentary

Luke 9:58

And Jesus said unto him, foxes have holes
Both the words of this man to Christ, and Christ's answer to him, are exactly the same as in Matthew, which makes it look as if it was the same history; though it is not improbable, that Christ might be accosted in the same manner by another person, at another time and place, and return a like answer to each; (See Gill on Matthew 8:20).

Luke 9:58 In-Context

56 They went on to another village.
57 Once Jesus and those who were with him were walking along the road. A man said to Jesus, "I will follow you no matter where you go."
58 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes. Birds of the air have nests. But the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
59 He said to another man, "Follow me." But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
60 Jesus said to him, "Let dead people bury their own dead. You go and tell others about God's kingdom."
