Mark 12:6 Meaning and Commentary

Mark 12:6

Having yet therefore one son, his well beloved
The Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the one, and only Son of God his Father, his only begotten Son, for he has no other Son in the same way of filiation; and who is his dear Son, the Son of his love, who was loved by him before the foundation of the world; and whom he declared to be his beloved Son, both at his baptism, and at his transfiguration upon the mount, by a voice from heaven: this Son he having with him, in his bosom, as one brought up with him, and rejoicing before him,

he sent him also last unto them;
after all the prophets had been with them, when the last days were come, the end of the Jewish state, civil and ecclesiastical; see ( Hebrews 1:1 ) ;

saying, they will reverence my son.
The Syriac, Arabic, and Persic versions read, "perhaps they will reverence my son", as in ( Luke 20:13 ) ; (See Gill on Matthew 21:37).

Mark 12:6 In-Context

4 Again he sent them another servant, and at him they threw stones, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.
5 And again he sent another, and him they killed; and many others, beating some and killing some.
6 Therefore still having one son, his beloved, he also sent him to them last, saying, 'They will respect my son.'
7 But those vinedressers said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
8 So they took him and killed him and cast him out of the vineyard.
