Exodus 21:34

The owner of the pit shall make it good
Repair the loss of the ox or ass:

and give the money unto the owner of them:
the price of them, what they are worth: the Targum of Jonathan is,

``the owner of the pit shall pay the silver, he shall return to its owner the price of the ox or ass:''

and the dead beast shall be his;
either the owner of the pit; who pays the full value for the ox or ass killed, which seems but reasonable; or

``the injured person as Jarchi, for he says, they reckon or estimate the carcass, and he takes it for the price;''

that is, for part of the price it is valued at.

32 Pero si el buey cornea a un esclavo, sea hombre o mujer, el dueño del animal pagará al dueño del esclavo treinta monedas de plata,
y el buey morirá apedreado.

33 »Supongamos que alguien cava o destapa un pozo y, por no taparlo, un buey o un burro cae adentro.

34 El dueño del pozo compensará en forma total al dueño del animal pero podrá quedarse con el animal muerto.

35 »Si el buey de una persona cornea al buey de otra y el animal herido muere, entonces los dos dueños tendrán que vender el buey vivo y repartirse el dinero por partes iguales; también dividirán entre ellos el animal muerto.

36 Sin embargo, si el buey tenía fama de cornear y su dueño no lo mantenía bajo control, el dueño tendrá que pagar una compensación total —un buey vivo por el buey muerto— pero podrá quedarse con el animal muerto.
