24 Entonces invocarán ellos el nombre de su dios, y yo invocaré el nombre del SEÑOR. ¡El que responda con fuego, ese es el Dios verdadero!Y todo el pueblo estuvo de acuerdo.

1 Kings 18:24

And call ye on the name of your gods
The Baalim, the many lords and gods they served:

and I will call on the name of the Lord;
the one true Jehovah and God of Israel, whom I serve:

and the God that answereth by fire;
by causing fire to come down upon the sacrifice, and consume it:

let him be God;
accounted, owned, and acknowledged as the true God, and so afterwards worshipped as such:

and all the people answered and said, it is well spoken;
they thought it a very reasonable proposal, a very good method to determine the controversy, and come at the truth, and know who was the true God, and who not.

22 Entonces Elías añadió:—Yo soy el único que ha quedado de los profetas del SEÑOR; en cambio, Baal cuenta con cuatrocientos cincuenta profetas.

23 Tráigannos dos bueyes. Que escojan ellos uno, lo descuarticen y pongan los pedazos sobre la leña, pero sin prenderle fuego. Yo prepararé el otro buey y lo pondré sobre la leña, pero tampoco le prenderé fuego.

24 Entonces invocarán ellos el nombre de su dios, y yo invocaré el nombre del SEÑOR. ¡El que responda con fuego, ese es el Dios verdadero!Y todo el pueblo estuvo de acuerdo.

25 Entonces Elías les dijo a los profetas de Baal:—Ya que ustedes son tantos, escojan uno de los bueyes y prepárenlo primero. Invoquen luego el nombre de su dios, pero no prendan fuego.

26 Los profetas de Baal tomaron el buey que les dieron y lo prepararon, e invocaron el nombre de su dios desde la mañana hasta el mediodía.—¡Baal, respóndenos! —gritaban, mientras daban brincos alrededor del altar que habían hecho.Pero no se escuchó nada, pues nadie respondió.
