Lexham English Bible (LEB) New International Version (NIV)
See what sort of love the Father has given to us: that we should be called children of God, and we are! Because of this the world does not know us: because it did not know him. 1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever he is revealed we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as that one is pure. 3 Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.
And you know that that one was revealed in order that he might take away sins, and in him [there] is no sin. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.
Everyone who resides in him does not sin. Everyone who sins has neither seen him nor known him. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
