New Century Version (NCV) New International Version (NIV)
The day after the Sabbath day was the first day of the week. At dawn on the first day, Mary Magdalene and another woman named Mary went to look at the tomb. 1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
At that time there was a strong earthquake. An angel of the Lord came down from heaven, went to the tomb, and rolled the stone away from the entrance. Then he sat on the stone. 2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.
He was shining as bright as lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.
The soldiers guarding the tomb shook with fear because of the angel, and they became like dead men. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
The angel said to the women, "Don't be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus, who has been crucified. 5 The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
He is not here. He has risen from the dead as he said he would. Come and see the place where his body was. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
And go quickly and tell his followers, 'Jesus has risen from the dead. He is going into Galilee ahead of you, and you will see him there.'" Then the angel said, "Now I have told you." 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."
The women left the tomb quickly. They were afraid, but they were also very happy. They ran to tell Jesus' followers what had happened. 8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.
Suddenly, Jesus met them and said, "Greetings." The women came up to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.
Then Jesus said to them, "Don't be afraid. Go and tell my followers to go on to Galilee, and they will see me there." 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."
While the women went to tell Jesus' followers, some of the soldiers who had been guarding the tomb went into the city to tell the leading priests everything that had happened. 11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened.
Then the priests met with the older Jewish leaders and made a plan. They paid the soldiers a large amount of money 12 When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money,
and said to them, "Tell the people that Jesus' followers came during the night and stole the body while you were asleep. 13 telling them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.'
If the governor hears about this, we will satisfy him and save you from trouble." 14 If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble."
So the soldiers kept the money and did as they were told. And that story is still spread among the Jewish people even today. 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.
The eleven followers went to Galilee to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.
On the mountain they saw Jesus and worshiped him, but some of them did not believe it was really Jesus. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All power in heaven and on earth is given to me. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Teach them to obey everything that I have taught you, and I will be with you always, even until the end of this age." 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
