Douay-Rheims (RHE) New International Version (NIV)
(105-1) Give glory to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 1 Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
(105-2) Who shall declare the powers of the Lord? who shall set forth all his praises? 2 Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the LORD or fully declare his praise?
(105-3) Blessed are they that keep judgment, and do justice at all times. 3 Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right.
(105-4) Remember us, O Lord, in the favour of thy people: visit us with thy salvation. 4 Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people, come to my aid when you save them,
(105-5) That we may see the good of thy chosen, that we may rejoice in the joy of thy nation: that thou mayst be praised with thy inheritance. 5 that I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may share in the joy of your nation and join your inheritance in giving praise.
(105-6) We have sinned with our fathers: we have acted unjustly, we have wrought iniquity. 6 We have sinned, even as our fathers did; we have done wrong and acted wickedly.
(105-7) Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt: they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies: And they provoked to wrath going up to the sea, even the Red Sea. 7 When our fathers were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea.
(105-8) And he saved them for his own name’s sake: that he might make his power known. 8 Yet he saved them for his name's sake, to make his mighty power known.
(105-9) And he rebuked the Red Sea and it was dried up: and he led them through the depths, as in a wilderness. 9 He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; he led them through the depths as through a desert.
(105-10) And he saved them from the hand of them that hated them: and he redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. 10 He saved them from the hand of the foe; from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them.
(105-11) And the water covered them that afflicted them: there was not one of them left. 11 The waters covered their adversaries; not one of them survived.
(105-12) And they believed his words: and they sang his praises. 12 Then they believed his promises and sang his praise.
(105-13) They had quickly done, they forgot his works: and they waited not for his counsel. 13 But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his counsel.
(105-14) And they coveted their desire in the desert: and they tempted God in the place without water. 14 In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wasteland they put God to the test.
(105-15) And he gave them their request: and sent fulness into their souls. 15 So he gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease upon them.
(105-16) And they provoked Moses in the camp, Aaron the holy one of the Lord. 16 In the camp they grew envious of Moses and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the LORD.
(105-17) The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan: and covered the congregation of Abiron. 17 The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it buried the company of Abiram.
(105-18) And a fire was kindled in their congregation: the flame burned the wicked. 18 Fire blazed among their followers; a flame consumed the wicked.
(105-19) They made also a calf in Horeb: and they adored the graven thing. 19 At Horeb they made a calf and worshiped an idol cast from metal.
(105-20) And they changed their glory into the likeness of a calf that eateth grass. 20 They exchanged their Glory for an image of a bull, which eats grass.
(105-21) They forgot God, who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt, 21 They forgot the God who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt,
(105-22) Wondrous works in the land of Cham: terrible things in the Red Sea. 22 miracles in the land of Ham and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
(105-23) And he said that he would destroy them: had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach: To turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. 23 So he said he would destroy them-- had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.
(105-24) And they set at nought the desirable land. They believed not his word, 24 Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his promise.
(105-25) And they murmured in their tents: they hearkened not to the voice of the Lord. 25 They grumbled in their tents and did not obey the LORD.
(105-26) And he lifted up his hand over them: to overthrow them in the desert; 26 So he swore to them with uplifted hand that he would make them fall in the desert,
(105-27) And to cast down their seed among the nations, and to scatter them in the countries. 27 make their descendants fall among the nations and scatter them throughout the lands.
(105-28) They also were initiated to Beelpheor: and ate the sacrifices of the dead. 28 They yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods;
(105-29) And they provoked him with their inventions: and destruction was multiplied among them. 29 they provoked the LORD to anger by their wicked deeds, and a plague broke out among them.
(105-30) Then Phinees stood up, and pacified him: and the slaughter ceased. 30 But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was checked.
(105-31) And it was reputed to him unto justice, to generation and generation for evermore. 31 This was credited to him as righteousness for endless generations to come.
(105-32) They provoked him also at the waters of contradiction: and Moses was afflicted for their sakes: 32 By the waters of Meribah they angered the LORD, and trouble came to Moses because of them;
(105-33) Because they exasperated his spirit. And he distinguished with his lips. 33 for they rebelled against the Spirit of God, and rash words came from Moses' lips.
(105-34) They did not destroy the nations of which the Lord spoke unto them. 34 They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them,
(105-35) And they were mingled among the heathens, and learned their works: 35 but they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs.
(105-36) And served their idols, and it became a stumblingblock to them. 36 They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them.
(105-37) And they sacrificed their sons, and their daughters to devils. 37 They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.
(105-38) And they shed innocent blood: the blood of their sons and of their daughters which they sacrificed to the idols of Chanaan. And the land was polluted with blood, 38 They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood.
(105-39) And was defiled with their works: and they went aside after their own inventions. 39 They defiled themselves by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted themselves.
(105-40) And the Lord was exceedingly angry with his people: and he abhorred his inheritance. 40 Therefore the LORD was angry with his people and abhorred his inheritance.
(105-41) And he delivered them into the hands of the nations: and they that hated them had dominion over them. 41 He handed them over to the nations, and their foes ruled over them.
(105-42) And their enemies afflicted them: and they were humbled under their hands: 42 Their enemies oppressed them and subjected them to their power.
(105-43) Many times did he deliver them. But they provoked him with their counsel: and they were brought low by their iniquities. 43 Many times he delivered them, but they were bent on rebellion and they wasted away in their sin.
(105-44) And he saw when they were in tribulation: and he heard their prayer. 44 But he took note of their distress when he heard their cry;
(105-45) And he was mindful of his covenant: and repented according to the multitude of his mercies. 45 for their sake he remembered his covenant and out of his great love he relented.
(105-46) And he gave them unto mercies, in the sight of all those that had made them captives. 46 He caused them to be pitied by all who held them captive.
(105-47) Save us, O Lord, our God: and gather us from among the nations: That we may give thanks to thy holy name, and may glory in thy praise. 47 Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.
(105-48) Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say: So be it, so be it. 48 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, "Amen!" Praise the LORD.
