Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
For I want you to know how greatly I strive for you, and for those at La-odice'a, and for all who have not seen my face, 1 I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally.
that their hearts may be encouraged as they are knit together in love, to have all the riches of assured understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, of Christ, 2 My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,
in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
I say this in order that no one may delude you with beguiling speech. 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.
For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ. 5 For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.
As therefore you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so live in him, 6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him,
rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
