Ezekiel 14:1-6

HNV

NIV

1 Then came certain of the Zakenim of Yisra'el to me, and sat before me.
1 Some of the elders of Israel came to me and sat down in front of me.
2 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2 Then the word of the LORD came to me:
3 Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their heart, and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them?
3 “Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I let them inquire of me at all?
4 Therefore speak to them, and tell them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Every man of the house of Yisra'el who takes his idols into his heart, and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him therein according to the multitude of his idols;
4 Therefore speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: When any of the Israelites set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block before their faces and then go to a prophet, I the LORD will answer them myself in keeping with their great idolatry.
5 that I may take the house of Yisra'el in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.
5 I will do this to recapture the hearts of the people of Israel, who have all deserted me for their idols.’
6 Therefore tell the house of Yisra'el, Thus says the Lord GOD: Return you, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.
6 “Therefore say to the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Repent! Turn from your idols and renounce all your detestable practices!
