New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
One day the Pharisees asked Jesus, "When will the Kingdom of God come?" Jesus replied, "The Kingdom of God isn't ushered in with visible signs. 20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation,
You won't be able to say, 'Here it is!' or 'It's over there!' For the Kingdom of God is among you. " 21 nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you."
Later he talked again about this with his disciples. "The time is coming when you will long to share in the days of the Son of Man, but you won't be able to," he said. 22 Then he said to his disciples, "The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.
"Reports will reach you that the Son of Man has returned and that he is in this place or that. Don't believe such reports or go out to look for him. 23 Men will tell you, 'There he is!' or 'Here he is!' Do not go running off after them.
For when the Son of Man returns, you will know it beyond all doubt. It will be as evident as the lightning that flashes across the sky. 24 For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other.
But first the Son of Man must suffer terribly and be rejected by this generation. 25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.
"When the Son of Man returns, the world will be like the people were in Noah's day. 26 "Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man.
In those days before the flood, the people enjoyed banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat and the flood came to destroy them all. 27 People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.
"And the world will be as it was in the days of Lot. People went about their daily business -- eating and drinking, buying and selling, farming and building -- 28 "It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building.
until the morning Lot left Sodom. Then fire and burning sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. 29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.
Yes, it will be 'business as usual' right up to the hour when the Son of Man returns. 30 "It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed.
On that day a person outside the house must not go into the house to pack. A person in the field must not return to town. 31 On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with his goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything.
Remember what happened to Lot's wife! 32 Remember Lot's wife!
Whoever clings to this life will lose it, and whoever loses this life will save it. 33 Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.
That night two people will be asleep in one bed; one will be taken away, and the other will be left. 34 I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left.
Two women will be grinding flour together at the mill; one will be taken, the other left. " 35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left. "
36 "Where, LORD?" they asked. He replied, "Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather."
"Lord, where will this happen?" the disciples asked. Jesus replied, "Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near." 37
