The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not? 22 Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"
But perceiving their deceit he said to them, Why do ye tempt me? 23 He saw through their duplicity and said to them,
Shew me a denarius. Whose image and superscription has it? And answering they said, Caesar's. 24 "Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and inscription are on it?"
And he said to them, Pay therefore what is Caesar's to Caesar, and what is God's to God. 25 "Caesar's," they replied. He said to them, "Then give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
And they were not able to take hold of him in [his] expressions before the people, and, wondering at his answer, they were silent. 26 They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.
And some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection, coming up [to him], 27 Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question.
demanded of him saying, Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If any one's brother, who has a wife, die, and he die childless, his brother shall take the wife and raise up seed to his brother. 28 "Teacher," they said, "Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and have children for his brother.
There were then seven brethren: and the first, having taken a wife, died childless; 29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless.
and the second [took the woman, and *he* died childless]; 30 The second
and the third took her: and in like manner also the seven left no children and died; 31 and then the third married her, and in the same way the seven died, leaving no children.
and last of all the woman also died. 32 Finally, the woman died too.
