Now the feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called the Passover. 1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching,
And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put him to death; for they feared the people. 2 and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people.
Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve; 3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve.
he went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them. 4 And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus.
And they were glad, and engaged to give him money. 5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money.
So he agreed, and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of the multitude. 6 He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.
So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the passover for us, that we may eat it." 8 Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover."
They said to him, "Where will you have us prepare it?" 9 "Where do you want us to prepare for it?" they asked.
He said to them, "Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him into the house which he enters, 10 He replied, "As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters,
and tell the householder, 'The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest room, where I am to eat the passover with my disciples?' 11 and say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?'
And he will show you a large upper room furnished; there make ready." 12 He will show you a large upper room, all furnished. Make preparations there."
And they went, and found it as he had told them; and they prepared the passover. 13 They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.
And when the hour came, he sat at table, and the apostles with him. 14 When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table.
And he said to them, "I have earnestly desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer; 15 And he said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
for I tell you I shall not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God." 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God."
And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, "Take this, and divide it among yourselves; 17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, "Take this and divide it among you.
for I tell you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes." 18 For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."
And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." 19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me."
And likewise the cup after supper, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood. 20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
But behold the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table. 21 But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table.
For the Son of man goes as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!" 22 The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed, but woe to that man who betrays him."
And they began to question one another, which of them it was that would do this. 23 They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this.
A dispute also arose among them, which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 24 Also a dispute arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest.
And he said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 25 Jesus said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors.
But not so with you; rather let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. 26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.
For which is the greater, one who sits at table, or one who serves? Is it not the one who sits at table? But I am among you as one who serves. 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
"You are those who have continued with me in my trials; 28 You are those who have stood by me in my trials.
and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, 29 And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me,
that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
"Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 31 "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat.
but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again, strengthen your brethren." 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."
And he said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death." 33 But he replied, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death."
He said, "I tell you, Peter, the cock will not crow this day, until you three times deny that you know me." 34 Jesus answered, "I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me."
And he said to them, "When I sent you out with no purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything?" They said, "Nothing." 35 Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?" "Nothing," they answered.
He said to them, "But now, let him who has a purse take it, and likewise a bag. And let him who has no sword sell his mantle and buy one. 36 He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.
For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me, 'And he was reckoned with transgressors'; for what is written about me has its fulfilment." 37 It is written: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors'; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment."
And they said, "Look, Lord, here are two swords." And he said to them, "It is enough." 38 The disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords." "That is enough," he replied.
