Luke 2:25-35 NLT/NIV - Online Parallel Bible

New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
Now there was a man named Simeon who lived in Jerusalem. He was a righteous man and very devout. He was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he eagerly expected the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord's Messiah. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, 27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required,
Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying, 28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
"Lord, now I can die in peace! As you promised me, 29 "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace.
I have seen the Savior 30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,
you have given to all people. 31 which you have prepared in the sight of all people,
He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!" 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel."
Joseph and Mary were amazed at what was being said about Jesus. 33 The child's father and mother marveled at what was said about him.
Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, "This child will be rejected by many in Israel, and it will be their undoing. But he will be the greatest joy to many others. 34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against,
Thus, the deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your very soul." 35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."
