English Standard Version (ESV) New International Version (NIV)
As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, 22 When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men.
and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day." And they were greatly distressed. 23 They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life." And the disciples were filled with grief.
When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax went up to Peter and said, "Does your teacher not pay the tax?" 24 After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax came to Peter and asked, "Doesn't your teacher pay the temple tax ?"
He said, "Yes." And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax? From their sons or from others?" 25 "Yes, he does," he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. "What do you think, Simon?" he asked. "From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes--from their own sons or from others?"
And when he said, "From others," Jesus said to him, "Then the sons are free. 26 "From others," Peter answered. "Then the sons are exempt," Jesus said to him.
