to preserve you from the wife of another, from the smooth tongue of the adulteress. 24 keeping you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of the wayward wife.
Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes; 25 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes,
for a prostitute's fee is only a loaf of bread, but the wife of another stalks a man's very life. 26 for the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread, and the adulteress preys upon your very life.
Can fire be carried in the bosom without burning one's clothes? 27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?
Or can one walk on hot coals without scorching the feet? 28 Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched?
So is he who sleeps with his neighbor's wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished. 29 So is he who sleeps with another man's wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished.
