The Message (MSG) New International Version (NIV)
Boaz married Ruth. She became his wife. Boaz slept with her. By God's gracious gift she conceived and had a son. 13 So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. Then he went to her, and the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.
The town women said to Naomi, "Blessed be God! He didn't leave you without family to carry on your life. May this baby grow up to be famous in Israel! 14 The women said to Naomi: "Praise be to the LORD, who this day has not left you without a kinsman-redeemer. May he become famous throughout Israel!
He'll make you young again! He'll take care of you in old age. And this daughter-in-law who has brought him into the world and loves you so much, why, she's worth more to you than seven sons!" 15 He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth."
Naomi took the baby and held him in her arms, cuddling him, cooing over him, waiting on him hand and foot. 16 Then Naomi took the child, laid him in her lap and cared for him.
The neighborhood women started calling him "Naomi's baby boy!" But his real name was Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David. 17 The women living there said, "Naomi has a son." And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.
