1 El Señor<br /> habla a Samuel<br />Mientras tanto, el niño Samuel servía al Señor<br /> ayudando a Elí. Ahora bien, en esos días los mensajes del Señor<br /> eran muy escasos y las visiones eran poco comunes.

The boy Samuel ministered before the LORD under Eli. In those days the word of the LORD was rare; there were not many visions.
2 Una noche, Elí, que para entonces estaba casi ciego, ya se había acostado.

One night Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place.
3 La lámpara de Dios aún no se había apagado, y Samuel estaba dormido en el tabernáculo<br /> cerca del arca de Dios.

The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house of the LORD, where the ark of God was.
4 De pronto el Señor<br /> llamó:<br />—¡Samuel!<br />—Sí —respondió Samuel—. ¿Qué quiere?

Then the LORD called Samuel. Samuel answered, “Here I am.”
5 Se levantó y corrió hasta donde estaba Elí.<br />—Aquí estoy. ¿Me llamó usted?<br />—Yo no te llamé —dijo Elí—. Vuelve a la cama.<br />Entonces, Samuel se volvió a acostar.

And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.
6 Luego, el Señor<br /> volvió a llamar:<br />—¡Samuel!<br />Nuevamente Samuel se levantó y fue a donde estaba Elí.<br />—Aquí estoy. ¿Me llamó usted?<br />—Yo no te llamé, hijo mío —respondió Elí—. Vuelve a la cama.

Again the LORD called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” “My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.”
7 Samuel todavía no conocía al Señor<br />, porque nunca antes había recibido un mensaje de él.

Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD: The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.
8 Así que el Señor<br /> llamó por tercera vez, y una vez más Samuel se levantó y fue a donde estaba Elí.<br />—Aquí estoy. ¿Me llamó usted?<br />En ese momento Elí se dio cuenta de que era el Señor<br /> quien llamaba al niño.

A third time the LORD called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy.
9 Entonces le dijo a Samuel:<br />—Ve y acuéstate de nuevo y, si alguien vuelve a llamarte, di: “Habla, Señor<br />, que tu siervo escucha”.<br />Así que Samuel volvió a su cama.

So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 Y el Señor<br /> vino y llamó igual que antes:<br />—¡Samuel! ¡Samuel!<br />Y Samuel respondió:<br />—Habla, que tu siervo escucha.

The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
11 Entonces el Señor<br /> le dijo a Samuel:<br />—Estoy por hacer algo espantoso en Israel.

And the LORD said to Samuel: “See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears about it tingle.
12 Llevaré a cabo todas mis amenazas contra Elí y su familia, de principio a fin.

At that time I will carry out against Eli everything I spoke against his family—from beginning to end.
13 Le advertí que viene juicio sobre su familia para siempre, porque sus hijos blasfeman a Dios<br /> y él no los ha disciplinado.

For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons blasphemed God, and he failed to restrain them.
14 Por eso juré que los pecados de Elí y los de sus hijos jamás serán perdonados ni por medio de sacrificios ni ofrendas.

Therefore I swore to the house of Eli, ‘The guilt of Eli’s house will never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.’ ”
15 Samuel, vocero del Señor<br />Entonces Samuel se quedó en la cama hasta la mañana; luego se levantó y abrió las puertas del tabernáculo,<br /> como de costumbre. Tenía miedo de contarle a Elí lo que el Señor<br /> le había dicho.

Samuel lay down until morning and then opened the doors of the house of the LORD. He was afraid to tell Eli the vision,
16 Pero Elí lo llamó:<br />—Samuel, hijo mío.<br />—Aquí estoy —respondió Samuel.

but Eli called him and said, “Samuel, my son.” Samuel answered, “Here I am.”
17 —¿Qué te dijo el Señor<br />? Dímelo todo. ¡Y que el Señor<br /> te castigue, y aun te mate, si me ocultas algo!

“What was it he said to you?” Eli asked. “Do not hide it from me. May God deal with you, be it ever so severely, if you hide from me anything he told you.”
18 Entonces Samuel le contó todo a Elí; no le ocultó nada.<br />—Es la voluntad del Señor<br /> —respondió Elí—. Que él haga lo que mejor le parezca.

So Samuel told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Then Eli said, “He is the LORD; let him do what is good in his eyes.”
19 El Señor<br /> estaba con Samuel mientras crecía, y todo lo que Samuel decía se cumplía.

The LORD was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of Samuel’s words fall to the ground.
20 Entonces todo Israel, desde Dan en el norte hasta Beerseba en el sur, supo que Samuel había sido confirmado como profeta del Señor<br />.

And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the LORD.
21 El Señor<br /> siguió apareciéndose en Silo y le daba mensajes a Samuel allí en el tabernáculo.

The LORD continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed himself to Samuel through his word.
