1 Timothy 2

CEB 1 First of all, then, I ask that requests, prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving be made for all people. NIV 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- CEB 2 Pray for kings and everyone who is in authority so that we can live a quiet and peaceful life in complete godliness and dignity. NIV 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. CEB 3 This is right and it pleases God our savior, NIV 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, CEB 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. NIV 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. CEB 5 There is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, the human Christ Jesus, NIV 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, CEB 6 who gave himself as a payment to set all people free. This was a testimony that was given at the right time. NIV 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time. CEB 7 I was appointed to be a preacher and apostle of this testimony—I'm telling the truth and I'm not lying! I'm a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. NIV 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles. CEB 8 Therefore, I want men to pray everywhere by lifting up hands that are holy, without anger or argument. NIV 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing. CEB 9 In the same way, I want women to enhance their appearance with clothing that is modest and sensible, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive clothes. NIV 9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, CEB 10 They should make themselves attractive by doing good, which is appropriate for women who claim to honor God. NIV 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. CEB 11 A wife should learn quietly with complete submission. NIV 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. CEB 12 I don't allow a wife to teach or to control her husband. Instead, she should be a quiet listener. NIV 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. CEB 13 Adam was formed first, and then Eve. NIV 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. CEB 14 Adam wasn't deceived, but rather his wife became the one who stepped over the line because she was completely deceived. NIV 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. CEB 15 But a woman will be kept safe through childbirth provided she continues in faith, love, and holiness, combined with self-control. NIV 15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
