1 Peter 2:7-17

NAS 7 This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, "THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE VERY CORNER stone," NIV 7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone, " NAS 8 and, "A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE "; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed. NIV 8 and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for. NAS 9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; NIV 9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. NAS 10 for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY. NIV 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. NAS 11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul. NIV 11 Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. NAS 12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation. NIV 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. NAS 13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, NIV 13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, NAS 14 or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. NIV 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. NAS 15 For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. NIV 15 For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. NAS 16 Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God. NIV 16 Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. NAS 17 Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king. NIV 17 Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.
