1 Timothy 1:3-7

NLT 3 When I left for Macedonia, I urged you to stay there in Ephesus and stop those who are teaching wrong doctrine. NIV 3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer NLT 4 Don't let people waste time in endless speculation over myths and spiritual pedigrees. For these things only cause arguments; they don't help people live a life of faith in God. NIV 4 nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith. NLT 5 The purpose of my instruction is that all the Christians there would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and sincere faith. NIV 5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. NLT 6 But some teachers have missed this whole point. They have turned away from these things and spend their time arguing and talking foolishness. NIV 6 Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. NLT 7 They want to be known as teachers of the law of Moses, but they don't know what they are talking about, even though they seem so confident. NIV 7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.
