2 Peter 1

WBT 1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ: NIV 1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: WBT 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, NIV 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. WBT 3 According as his divine power hath given to us all things that [pertain] to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: NIV 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. WBT 4 Whereby are given to us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. NIV 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. WBT 5 And besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; NIV 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; WBT 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; NIV 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; WBT 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. NIV 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. WBT 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make [you that ye shall] neither [be] barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. WBT 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purified from his old sins. NIV 9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. WBT 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: NIV 10 Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, WBT 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. NIV 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. WBT 12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know [them], and are established in the present truth. NIV 12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. WBT 13 Indeed, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting [you] in remembrance; NIV 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, WBT 14 Knowing that shortly I must put off [this] my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shown me. NIV 14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. WBT 15 Moreover, I will endeavor that ye may be able, after my decease, to have these things always in remembrance. NIV 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things. WBT 16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eye-witnesses of his majesty. NIV 16 We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. WBT 17 For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. NIV 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." WBT 18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him on the holy mount. NIV 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. WBT 19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; to which ye do well that ye take heed, as to a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts: NIV 19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. WBT 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. NIV 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. WBT 21 For prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke [as they were] moved by the Holy Spirit. NIV 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
